As part of the Hanoi Green Building Week 2024 at the NECC organized by the Vietnam Ministry of Construction (MoC) and co-hosted by the Vietnam Green Building Council (VGBC), the SUA team was able to present, explain and illustrate the current project status in detail. The holistic view of the Smart Urban Areas project on the topics of building climate, materiality and energetics with regard to living comfort, building optimization and management was perceived very positively and discussed in more detail in a concluding panel discussion. The conference itself was extended by a specialist exhibition on sustainable building materials and products, and the conference gala dinner provided an opportunity for a subsequent and sustainable exchange between the construction stakeholders and players.

Project presentation at the BaukunstArchiv NRW
The current project status was presented to the audience at the 13th workshop in the “Sustainable and intelligent buildings” series of events organized by the Competence Network Environmental Economy NRW. Further information will follow at:
The project team has been chosen the annual storm season for plantations on the roof top and two facades (South & West) at an eight storey tall building in Hanoi for two reasons. First, we can move and prove strong wind loads and second, extreme weather conditions providing the peaks in data. We had plenty of everything. Sunshine with temperatures around 38 degrees celsius (feels like 56 degrees celsius) and heavy downfalls that literally flooded the roof. All 730 plants in plant containers A, B and C proved durability, the very complex sensor network placed within the green proved its reliability and the IoT devises delivered properly. Now time to gather and synthesize data of growth and cooling effects. A leaf count, a final drone flight and a three week monitoring phase rounded up the work scope on site.

During this time, TestBed 01 with a green roof and façade was built, which collects rainwater and uses it for automatic irrigation. In addition, 26 LoRaWAN sensors for relative air humidity and air temperature were installed on three levels of the TONKIN2 test building. Two LoRaWAN gateways are used to transmit the data collected by the sensors about the building's dynamics to the project server in Germany for evaluation. The project achieved milestones 3 & 4 successfully.
