Project Implementation Phase Part II, July 2024

The project team has been chosen the annual storm season for plantations on the roof top and two facades (South & West) at an eight storey tall building in Hanoi for two reasons. First, we can move and prove strong wind loads and second, extreme weather conditions providing the peaks in data. We had plenty of everything. Sunshine with temperatures around 38 degrees celsius (feels like 56 degrees celsius) and heavy downfalls that literally flooded the roof.
All 730 plants in plant containers A, B and C proved durability, the very complex sensor network placed within the green proved its reliability and the IoT devises delivered properly. Now time to gather and synthesize data of growth and cooling effects. A leaf count, a final drone flight and a three week monitoring phase rounded up the work scope on site.

Green Blue Digital, Symposium 2024

At the end of April, the SUA team welcomed the scientific and industrial guests and guided them through a detailed program over two days. While the first day focused on diplomatic relations, the second day was able to inspire the audience with many expert impulses.
In addition to the keynotes of the currently ongoing EXI programs in Vietnam, the SUA team was able to attract speakers on the topics of green, blue and digital from German-speaking countries. The holistic approach was once again recognised and approved by the audience. In addition to lively and interested discussions between all participants, the extraordinary EXI tree planting campaign was integrated into the program. Wilo as industry partner guided the special guests from Berlin and Frankfurt through their new facility and factory 4.0.
Both days were rounded with culinary delights and a network bbq into the evening hours.

SUA Project Implementation Phase,

ZUG / BMUV delegation of German Ministry site survey

Prof. Nguyen Xuan Thinh and the SUA team welcomed the ZUG delegation of the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection (BMUV) in Hanoi, Vietnam. Within a week the delegation visited three projects of the EXI - Environmental Export Initiatives program in northern Vietnam:

    • Smart-Urban-Areas (SUA) in Hanoi
    • CapaViet 3 in Bac Ninh
                               (https://www.exportinitiative-umweltschutz.de/projekte/capaviet-3)
    • S-IRCLE in Nam Dinh
                               (https://s-ircle.com/)

Besides intensive project information, detailed on-site presentations and official meetings, the delegation came in touch with the local communities, work environment and culture of each project and project area.

Working together with local partners, the SUA project was able to successfully initiate the implementation phase between February and April 2024. During this time, TestBed 01 with a green roof and façade was built, which collects rainwater and uses it for automatic irrigation. In addition, 26 LoRaWAN sensors for relative air humidity and air temperature were installed on three levels of the TONKIN2 test building. Two LoRaWAN gateways are used to transmit the data collected by the sensors about the building's dynamics to the project server in Germany for evaluation. The project achieved milestones 3 & 4 successfully.

Team SUA Project Conference and Tour, November 2023

Prof. Nguyen Xuan Thinh and the SUA team organised the conference ‘Innovation in green building construction - legal implementation strategies in Vietnam’. A decent audience followed the speakers.
Besides important project gatherings all three project partners signed the project contract officially at Vinhomes headquarters in OceanPark and focusing on next milestones of greening, smart pumps and climate sensor installations in 2024. Meetings with VinUni and Vietnam National Innovation Center rounded up the tour.

Team SUA Project Tour, September 2023

Prof. Nguyen Xuan Thinh visited WILO SE's SEA Summit in Singapore and met Tobias Kuester-Campioni In Hanoi to meet with project partners besides attending the Vietnam Green Building Week in HCMC, where Tobias presented the SUA current outcome project to the audience. This will be followed by further meetings with institutions and a site survey that is using Viglacera AAC blocks for interior and exterior walls.
